Make Scented Candles
Scented candles are very delightful because they carry various types of fragrance that gives a warm and relaxing feeling. They are also best for setting the mood of a room, making it comfortable and cozy.
In learning how to make scented candles, there are many types of scents that you can choose from. They can be bought readily in candle making stores and online craft stores.
When making scented candles the common source of fragrance that most candle makers use is fragrance oil. They are said to be more suitable in candle making because they have the same composition of waxes. Other fragrances that are used are alcohol based and water based, but these do not mix well with waxes.
In making scented candles it is important to consider the type of wax that you will be using. There are many types that you can choose from, such as beeswax, soy wax, paraffin and gel wax. They have different characteristics and combine in different ways with fragrances. Some of them are able to hold heavier loads of fragrances while others require the use of a proper proportion.
Like any other candle making process, the first thing that you should do in making scented candles is to prepare the material needed. Once everything is ready and the wax that you will be using is paraffin, you can now melt it using a double burner. The first pot is filled with water and put to a boil, and then another pot containing the wax is placed over it. The heat of the boiling water will make the wax melt instead of the direct heat. When the wax has evenly melted you can now remove it from the heat and add the fragrance that you desire. The ratio in adding fragrance should be 1 ounce of fragrance for every 1 pound of wax. This will produce a 6 percent fragrance concentration on the candle. Too much fragrance in the candle can sometimes cause it to bleed and burn improperly.
Once you are finished adding fragrance, you can now pour it in the candle mold with the wick properly positioned. Carefully and gently pour the wax trying not to disturb the wick. You can also support the wick by holding it with one hand while you pour the melted wax. Then let it cool down and harden overnight in a safe place where children will not be able to reach it.
When the candle has completely hardened, remove it by turning it upside down and slightly tapping its bottom and sides. If you used disposable or paper containers, simply tear and rip it apart to get the candle out of the mold. Once it is removed, wipe it with a clean soft cloth to make it look polished and refined.
Learning how to make scented candles can be very beneficial. You can make different kinds of scented candles and use them in many ways. You can give them away as souvenirs, presents and you can also use them for business purposes.
When you know how to make scented candles, you can experiment with different scents and fragrance. You can also try combining them to create a whole new aroma. You can add designs and crafty packaging for your candles to look more attractive and elegant.
