Why would you want to go to a store and buy an overpriced scented candle when you can easily make one and save money. Many people also seem to believe that it takes a long time to make a scented candle but it is honestly a quick process that should not take you more than an hour and half if that.

Here is a list of everything that you are going to need: paraffin candle wax or all natural soy candle wax, a carving knife, fragrance oils (we will go more in to these in a moment), a double boiler, a muffin pan, wicks, wick tabs, color dyes, olive oil, and newspapers.

Now you can easily make your own scented oils at home but this is a two month process so in order to save time we are not going to go over this in this article. However, scented oils are easy to find at any arts and crafts store and are also fairly inexpensive. If you do not want to buy scented oils then you can use an extract. Almond, lemon, and vanilla extracts all create a wonderful fragrance.

So are you ready to learn how to make scented candles at home? Here we go!

Step # 1. Start off by choosing a work area that is both flat and level. Take the newspapers and cover the entire area in order to keep it safe from damage.

Step # 2. Now take the double boiler, fill the bottom pan with water and place it on the stove top with low to medium heat. Now take the top pan of the double boiler and use a knife to cut chunks of the wax in to it. Use more than you think you are going to need as it is always better to have more wax then not enough.

Step # 3. Now place the top pan on to the bottom pan of the double boiler and bring the water to a boil. Make sure that you check on the wax often and stir it to ensure that it does not burn. Use your thermometer to check the temperate as the wax should melt between 150 to 160 degrees.

Step # 4. When you learn how to make scented candles at home then the part that is almost always the most difficult is the wicks. For this reason you are making many smaller candles so the wick should not be an issue. Take the muffin pan and wipe the inside of each cup with olive oil. This is going to prevent the wax to sticking to the pan as it dries.

Step # 5. Now string the wicks though the wick tabs and place the wick tabs in to the bottom center of each of the cups in the muffin pan.

Step # 6. You do not want to learn how to make scented candles at home without a fragrance right? When the wax is melted You can add the color dye and the fragrance. Make sure that you only add a little at a time and that you mix it all in well.

Step # 7. Now take your time and pour the melted wax in to each of the cups in the muffin pan. Be careful not to burn yourself. When this is done simply place the muffin pan someplace where it can cool and dry and where it will not be disturbed by pets and children. Let it sit for 24 hours.

Step # 8. You are almost done learning how to make scented candles at home! When the 24 hours have passed then turn the muffin pan over and gently shake it so that the candles fall out.
