Information Overload and Transient Depression - What To Do About It

It's 6:30 in the morning, and the ugly head of "information overload" is making my head spin.

I've been writing since 6 o'clock in the morning of yesterday. I retired 18 hours later next day. And then, just after 4 hours of sleep, I worked again. I'm pushing myself to generate traffic to my websites by way of "article marketing".

Article marketing is one tried and proven way of getting targeted traffic to your sites. The best way to do it is to write an original article and submit it to article directories. Once approved, and published, people who search for information related to what you wrote may come across your article. And if they like it - they can publish it to their site.

But on one condition: the original article, which may contain links to your website, must be preserved. The two of you win. You get targeted traffic and backlinks to your site. Your publisher gets free, and valuable, content, without doing the work that you did.

There's one problem, though.

Writing original articles involves research. It can be hard.

It's easy when you only write one or two. But when you write 10 or more - it can be tedious, and mind-snapping.

So, I sat down to research, and write. Later, I realized that the relevant page to where I will direct my article has not been constructed yet!

That means - I would have to create the landing page, first. My body began to sulk, my spirit began to dive.

That meant - I have to create that page, from scratch. That meant, I need to create content for that page, and it must be of value. That meant, more research, more writing, more webmaster work - and the output must be of "above average" level. Usually, that would not be a problem. But...

Depression began to take over me.

I've been working straight for almost 24 hours, barely slept, then came back to my computer, to work again.

I felt my body melt. I felt my mind sink. I felt my brain "crash". I just couldn't process any more.

I'm tired. I'm spent.

I'm depressed.

Well, I could just do the short cut, and drive my article to my site's main page. But... that is not what I wanted. I want to drive it to my inner pages to get more of the search engines' nod.

What I Did...

I quit!

Huh? Are you kidding me? Yes, I quit... But, only for a while.. It dawned on me that information overload happens because you are pushing yourself too much. All work, no play makes you dumb.

More work, no play, makes you dumber.

Recharged My Batteries

Mao Tse Tung, the leader of the Chinese Revolution that culminated in 1948, wrote this epic passage: ":... one step backward, two steps forward!".

My mind is tired and the devil is getting the best of me. I need to withdraw from the "battle", "re-group", "sharpen my saw". So...

I went to church, communed with my Heavenly Father Abba and his Son JC, and basked in the silence with the Holy Spirit. I recharged my spiritual battery. Next, I went to the park near my place, feasted my eyes on the vast expanse of greens, inhaled the fresh "negative ions" from the Pines, and bathe in the morning sun as I did my morning run. I came back home, and took a 3 hour sleep. I recharged my physical battery.

The result was miraculous.

I woke up - a new person!

I was back and felt much, much better! My spirit was up, my mind was sharp, and my body was ready, and eager to write.

In conclusion...

If you feel overwhelmed and overloaded with information that you usually can handle... you might just be tired, and weary. Here's a proven way to be on top of it. Here's what to do:

Sharpen your "saw". Withdraw and recharge your batteries.

And you will rebound a new person who is eager to do more work!
