A Personal Development Foundational Book: 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

From time to time I like to write a book review just to let people know about some of the information that is out in the world. I read a lot of books in the personal development field, because that is how I make my living. Most of them offer some great information. If you have read any of my articles, you will know that Think and Grow Rich is my favorite book. I highly recommend it to anyone because it pioneered the principles, which it outlines, that have been found in every self help book since its writing. If you have read it already, pick it up sometime and read it again. You will be amazed at the information it offers on the reread. But that's not what this article is about. I have chosen some personal development foundational books to review. Some of them have been around for a while and others are new to the personal development scene. Each one of them has something to offer in a special way that builds a foundation for you to build a new and better life.

One of the most famous self help books and programs available to corporation and individuals alike is The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Dr Stephen Covey wrote it in such a way, that while you're reading it you feel as if he is speaking directly to you.

I purchased the book and the audio book at the same time. The book was easy reading with each chapter being outlined in such a way that it flowed from one idea into the next in a logical order. This way the ideas built upon each other and formed a foundation for the next idea. I listened to the audio book while in my car on my commute to work. While listening to the book on the way to work, I was able to reinforce the information I had just read. I guess "See you at the top" author and world renowned speaker Zig Zigler is right in the concept of Automobile University.

The basic concept of the book is that first you must work on yourself. By applying the principles to yourself, you will improve the only one really control. Then work on the way you interact with others. If you treat others with the mindset, what you do for them will also produce for you, then you grow beyond that which only you could do. Do not take this to be that you only do for others just so you could get something. Embrace others successes. Take on the mindset that there is enough success to go around, stop thinking of success as a finite object. Think of success as something bigger. Think of it in the concept of, each one of us will be able to succeed, with the help of each other. The more we help others succeed the more we will succeed. Team work is the key factor to any organization. Team work is also the key factor to the individual. For example, in your relationship with your spouse or significant other will the relationship work if only one person does for the other? A relationship is meant to be two sided; I do for you and you do for me. Not because I am going to gain something but because if we work in harmony with each other we both gain something.

I suggest that if you want to enhance your life, either corporate of personal, read this book. Then take the principles and apply them.
