1. People Join You, Not Your Company

In today's economy there are more and more people turning to the internet trying to find a way to add additional income. While that is a good thing for the internet marketer, it has a downside.

There are also hundreds of new businesses popping up on the internet on a daily basis and because of many shady characters out there, people have been scammed and so they are more skeptical than ever before.

You must become a marketer of yourself...not your company. Companies are a dime a dozen and people don't care about them. People are looking for leaders to teach and coach them success. Your only chance at being successful is to brand and sell yourself.

2. You Must Work Harder On Your Mindset Than You Do Your Business

Many people get into a network marketing business, or any home business for that matter, and while they continue to train in the latest marketing methods to promote their business, they do no mindset or self-development training.

Coming from an athletic coaching background I can tell you that your success is determined 90% by your thinking or belief and only 10% by your skills. Therefore, you should have daily training and practice in self-development.

3. You Must Establish A Solid "Why"

Here's where a great many people fail. They don't establish a strong enough "Why." I like to use the analogy with the movie, "Cinderella Man" with Russell Crow. In the movie he ends up becoming boxing's heavyweight champion of the world. Before the championship fight a reporter asked him, "After losing all these years why are you now so good?" Crow responds, "Milk."

You see they were living in the depression and Crow could barely afford to feed his family. He was on the brink of losing his family because he could barely feed them. So the focus on possibly losing his family if he didn't win was his "why"...and a good one at that!

4. You Must Work Your Business Daily

Too many people get into a network marketing business and think if they work it a couple of hours per week they will be successful. That never works. In fact it never has worked and no matter how much you tell people they will still spend money joining a home business and work it only a couple hours per week.

Also, you must focus your energy and time on "revenue-generating" activities. It is very easy, especially for the beginner, to get caught up in building a fancy blog or making sure the copyright is just perfect or their computer desktop has a cute background, and so on. Those are non-revenue-generating activities.

You need to spend your time writing articles and submitting them, producing videos and submitting them, writing solo ads and submitting them, and getting on the phone and prospecting. These are revenue-generating activities.

5. Be A Master At What You Do

Know your business and company inside and out. Know yourself inside and out. Know your weaknesses and learn what it is to do to cover them up by utilizing your strengths. You must become the best at what you do.

When it comes to marketing your business, only work with 3 methods at first. Make sure to master those 3 and when they become second nature, then add on another method of marketing.

My final Thoughts

MLM and all home businesses in general receive a bad rap at times because the people who partake in them and fail, do so because they did not approach it in the right way or work the business the right way. Instead of taking the responsibility themselves, they blame the industry and call it a scam. This hurts the industry.
