Rebound Relationships Are Not Healthy Relationships

Broken relationships are difficult to deal with. Most people after breaking up with someone they love tend to sit around and mope while contemplating how to get that particular person back. If you are not one of these types of people, then you are probably in acceptance that the relationship is over. You are probably depressed and feeling lonely no matter who is at fault for the failed relationship. Sometimes, due to this circumstance, you might forget how vulnerable you are while seeking another relationship to jump into. Rebound relationships occur all the time with people who are not satisfied with simply being alone.

Even though you might be viewing another possibility on the horizon, you must always take a step back while viewing things realistically. If you are not careful, you might find yourself in a similar situation that you just exited out of. Rebound relationships are the type of relationships that start shortly after people get out of one particular relationship. You might believe that this is exactly what the doctor ordered for your loneliness but you might be setting yourself up for failure.

What is bad about rebound relationships? One bad thing is that when you exit out of one relationship and enter into another relationship shortly afterward, the attention might be helpful in getting over your pain but the reality of the situation is that you have not allowed yourself time to heal from the last relationship. If you truly analyze the situation at hand, you will realize that you do not have true feelings for this person who you are attempting to enter into a relationship with due to still having feelings for the last person you were in a relationship with.

Sometimes people enter into these rebound relationships only to find shortly afterward that they are not in love and they have subjected the other person to hurt and pain. Anyone rebounding from a relationship is not actually ready for a relationship and this is when it turns into blatant selfishness because let's face it, you are using the other person in order to boost your ego while licking your wounds and this is not fair for anyone to be subjected to.

I could sit and preach on a soapbox for hours on end and some people will not listen to the fact that rebound relationships are not the way to go after breaking up with someone. If you are one of these people, while choosing to enter into these types of relationships, then the least you can do is be honest with the person who you are rebounding with. Some people unbelievably will be "OK" with this maneuver while sitting themselves up for failure because you can rest assured, the day will come when you will tire of the relationship while realizing that you do not love them.

One way of dealing with the urge to jump into rebound relationships is to acknowledge the fact that you must deal with issues from the old relationship that ended. This is commonly called dealing with "emotional baggage". It is not fair to become involved with anyone after your breakup until you have deal with the emotional issues from your last relationship. In dealing with the issues, this means that you are dedicated to ridding yourself of this type of baggage while ensuring that the next person you commit yourself to will not have to deal with it. This typically works as a great deterrent for anyone to keep them from rebounding.
