What to Look For Before Joining a MLM Company

If you have spent any amount of time on the internet searching for the right MLM company to work with, you have discovered that there are hundreds to choose from with the promise of "unicorns and rainbows" or "get rich quick" themes and mottoes. With all these companies emerging out of the woodwork, what do you actually look for before joining a MLM company?

Discovering all the ins and outs of a company will not be an easy task. The legitimate companies will make this easy for you as they have nothing to hide. It is the companies that have only been around for a short period of time that make false promises. These "ground breaking" or "the next big thing" companies deliver these false promises so that they can get as many people involved with their company as fast as they can so that they can try to back up their income claims with the amount of people that have been suckered into joining, usually at the loss of the person who joined. This act is what gives multi level and network marketing companies a bad reputation. In my opinion, these companies need to be shut down as soon as they are started and the founders thrown in jail.

Do your due diligence by spending however much time you need to spend in order to find out anything and everything about the company. Here are some items that MUST be looked at prior to signing any dotted lines or handing over any money:

• The company. Research the company on any of the major search engines. You will no doubt produce hundreds of results about the company, the founders, where the company is based, testimonials, complaints and anything else that you may be trying to find out. Spend some time here and sift through all the information that is provided. If the founders or company officers names are given, research them and ensure that their background matches what the company has to offer. Make sure that there are not any pending or prior class action lawsuits or judgments against the company. Where the company is based in the world is important. You will want to avoid companies that are based out of overseas countries that you have never heard of or are leery about. If income or some other type of testimonials are given, ensure that these are verifiable and certified (notarized). False income claims are made to entice people to the business with the full intention of only taking their money and running. In your research of the company you are sure to come across complaints from others. Read these complaints to see if they are justified or if they are just complaining that they did not become successful due to their laziness.
• The products. The products that the company offers are essentially your bread and butter. You will want to make sure that the products are "Real". There are a lot of shady companies that will take your money with the promise of delivering a product. In reality, these products do not exist and you are the victim of a crime that you will have trouble fighting. Research the products and obtain user reviews about the products. Find out anything and everything you can. Depending on what your income desires and goals are, you will want to find out what the cost and profit margins are for each product. You will want to avoid choosing a company that has hundreds upon hundreds of low cost products with small profits. By choosing this type of MLM, the majority of your time will be dedicated to sponsoring thousands of new members along with selling thousands of products in order to produce a respectable income. If you want to sell lotions, potions, pills and juices; that is your choice. These types of products are generally low cost and usually low profit to you. To maximize your potential, choose a company that has high demand, high end and high profit products. These types of companies will have a limited number of products (under 5) which allows you to spend less time prospecting and marketing ultimately allowing you more time to do what you want and when you want. The profits paid directly to you will range from 40% to 60%. Make sure that you can become "a product of the product". This will give you firsthand experience that you can tell prospects about and will allow you to become an expert. This builds trust that your prospects will notice.
• The compensation plan. This is the most controversial part of MLM companies. Legitimate companies will have a full disclosure compensation plan that will be presented to you in conjunction with the business presentation. They want you and others to know exactly how you will be making your money. The best companies will pay you commissions several tiers deep into your down line. This is an incentive for the sponsoring member to assist the sponsored in making sales. The compensation plan should be totally leveraged in your favor. Find out what is and is not commissionable in the company. Again, the legitimate companies will pay you commissions on everything.
• Training and support. There has to be, let me repeat that, there has to be a devoted and competent training and support system in place that you can rely on. The legitimate companies will have a dedicated support system that will be there for you at all times (regular business hours). These support personnel must be completely knowledgeable of all aspects of the company. The top income earners of the company should be conducting the training. This is something that you need to make sure of. The best companies top income producers are more than willing to give back to the community by training them on how they achieved success.
• Marketing system. What sense does it make to join a multi level marketing company that does not have an established, functional and proven marketing system in place? If a marketing system is not in place, you will have to fend for yourself trying to figure out how to market your product. Legitimate companies will have the best marketing system in place that was designed and developed by the most respectable individuals in this industry. If a company has a marketing system in place, ensure that is has websites that you can customize, ways and means of capturing, calling and tracking leads, some type of built in auto responder system and the creation and tracking of ad campaigns. All of the aforementioned are a must for any marketing system to be functional.

As you can see, there are many factors that must be considered before you look at joining a Multi Level Marketing company. Your success will ultimately be up to you. If you do your homework, make sure that you acquire enough information about the company, the products, the compensation plan, training, support and marketing systems so that you can make an informed decision. This is the only way that you can assure that you will not be taken to the cleaners and stripped out of your hard earned money.
