How to Easily Get More Traffic to Your Blog (And Make It Pay)

The secret of how to drive traffic to a blog is perhaps the Holy Grail of Internet marketing ever since the first stories broke about ordinary men and women who suddenly discovered Internet riches from their daily ramblings. And, of course, a huge industry has sprung up on the back of it with all the 'gurus' selling products, courses, and seminars on how to carve your own slice of the pie

How to Get More Traffic to Your Blog - Three Easy Tips

But what the 'gurus' don't tell you is... of all the millions of blogs out there, perhaps only a teeny-tiny fraction of 1% make any money at all, and even fewer than that bring in enough money to make any difference in the bloggers' lives. On the other hand, you don't have to make millions to be successful -- even a modest $1,000 a month would for many be a substantial increase in their income.

And a $1,000 a month blog is well within your reach (believe it or not).

Here are three tips to get you started.

  • Focus on buyers. When you're doing your keyword research to write the content that's going to bring in the visitors, don't try for the popular, competitive and hard-to-rank-for keywords because not only will it take you forever to get any appreciable rankings, but the traffic generally isn't well targeted. In other words, someone searching for "home study piano playing course" is a buyer; someone searching for "piano" might be... but equally might not be, too. Best news of all is not only are these phrases more likely to be typed in by buyers, but they're much easier to rank for, too.
  • Write informative and useful articles (like this one). Article marketing is, in my opinion, vastly underrated by the 'gurus'. Not surprising since they want to sell you expensive and complicated 'systems', right? With a properly executed programme of article writing you can not only get high-quality and focused back-links to your website, but the traffic you get from the article click-throughs is incredibly well qualified (as an example, on my own blog someone who clicks through from an article is fifteen times more likely to join my email list than someone who's just dropped in from a Google search). I know article-writers bang on about the back-links, but I, personally, think they're missing the point.
  • Comment on similar blogs and post in forums. But please... don't spam. Only contribute when you have something sensible and worthwhile to say -- and you will get traffic. All you need on forums is a link to your website in your post-signature. If you make the mistake one of my friends did and blunder in there like a bit wet, friendly puppy dog you'll get yourself banned in no time. Remember it's not the quantity of traffic that's important - it's the quality. And a slow, steady and understated approach to commenting on forums and blogs is definitely the way to go.
  • Finally, a general tip. While it's important to pick something to blog about that has enough traffic to make it financially worthwhile, don't make the mistake of following the money and forsaking all else.

    Why?

Because if you don't enjoy the topic enough to put the time and effort in to write lots of useful and interesting material, then you simply won't get the results you want. My wife has a blog that brings her in about $3,000 a month, and she's grown it using exactly the strategies I've just shared with you. But it's taken her a year, and involved lots of keywords research, 130 focused blog posts, hundreds of emails to her list, dozens of articles and hundreds of forum posts and comments on other blogs.

Like anything else in life, the rewards you get out of it will be in proportion to the effort you put into it.
