Prevent Yoyo Dieting
These days, everyone's on the lookout for quick and easy ways to lose weight. Many people are tempted by crash diets on the premise that they'll be able to lose plenty of weight in as short a time as possible. The only problem with strict diets is that you'll quickly fall off the wagon, and that's where yoyo dieting begins. To prevent yoyo dieting, you need to make sure that you don't fall into that trap in the first place.
Crash or yoyo diets could see you lose weight in the short term, but when you stop that diet and go back to your old way of eating you'll soon find that you put all the weight back on again. You'll often put more back on than you had in the first place, because if your body wasn't given enough food on the diet it retains even more of the food it gets afterwards, just in case it stops getting it in the future. To prevent this, you need to focus on the long term rather than the short.
Long-term weight loss relies on a healthy eating plan that can be sustained, rather than a strict regime that can't be. Yoyo dieting starts when your diet is just too strict to stick to, and when you don't give your body enough nutrition or the food that it craves it gives in and you have a complete blow out. If you want to avoid this, focus on a long-term plan that contains all of the essential food groups and even allows the odd treat, as that way you'll stay focused and won't feel the need to binge.
Your healthy eating plan shouldn't cut out any foods, no matter what some fad diets might suggest. There's no secret trick to weight loss - it's all about eating properly. To make the right plan you need to make sure that you eat regularly throughout the day, with healthy snacks such as fruit or nuts in between meals. Eating regularly increases your metabolism and aids weight loss, so don't be fooled into thinking that you can't eat to lose weight.
Make sure that your plan contains plenty of protein, fruit, veg and dairy, and even a moderate amount of carbs so as to avoid cravings. Include the odd treat into your plan as well to make sure that you stay motivated. Don't treat yourself every day, and obviously don't give in to every craving that you have, but if you're allowed the occasional treat then your cravings will soon wane and you'll be able to stick to your plan for the long term.
So, above all, to prevent yoyo dieting you need to come up with a healthy eating regime that's easy to stick to. If you can't see yourself on the plan in 6 months time then it's time to start again, but if you can then you'll be more than able to prevent yoyo dieting and will soon start losing weight the healthy and sensible way.
