How To Make A Candle Out Of Pencils

So out of all of my years making candles I have had quite a number of questions on how to make candles, everything from how do you make a candle from crayons to how do you make a candle out of markers. One of the questions that I got recently was someone asking me how to make a candle out of pencils.

Well to answer the first two of these questions right now: yes, you can make a candle out of crayons, and no, you can not make a candle out of markers. Now as far as pencils go, I found this interesting as to why people would even think that it was possible, now even markers I can somewhat see why people may think that it is a possibility, but pencils?

To start off with, no, you can not learn how to make a candle out of pencils, it is simply not going to work. There are a variety of reasons as to why this is not going to work but the main thing is that although wood is flammable, you can not make a candle out of it because it is wood and not wax or gel. And as far as the lead goes, it is just not going to happen, besides, lead is not good for you to try to burn and inhale anyways. So what can you do with pencils though, can you use them in any way when it comes to candle making?

The truth to this is yes, as long as you are creative you can easily use pencils in your candle making projects. No, you will not learn how to make a candle out of pencils but you can still use pencils in your arts and crafts. How can I use them you ask? Once again, use your imagination, here is one thing that pencils are great for. If you have made candles then you know how tricky the wick can be, especially if you are just starting out.

For example the first times that I tried to make candles I had a horrible time with the wick, even when I thought that I got it right, the candle would always dry and I would find that the wick is off center. A great way to prevent this is to take the excess wick and wrap it around a pencil a few times, when this is done simply lay the pencil flat across the rim of the mold and then pour the wax in. This is going to hold the wick in place the whole time. So if you want to learn how to make a candle out of pencils, it is just not going to happen, however, be creative and you can always use a pencil in your candle making projects.
