The Multifaceted Field Of Law

Would you like the ability to work independently or on a team of professionals? There are few degrees that would allow you the opportunity to do both. As a qualified law professional, you would have the opportunity to begin your own practice, or join an existing one as a partner. If you are a hard-working dedicated individual, you may have what it takes to survive law school.

This exciting multifaceted field offers careers at every level. While spending three years in law school is a great option for some, it will not be a great fit for everyone. There are law professionals at the Bachelor's degree level as well. Criminal justice professionals that work in law enforcement and public safety administration play an important role within the community and did not necessarily go to law school.

If you do decide to move forward with law school after spending four years in undergraduate studies, remember that this will be a huge commitment. After making the decision to move forward with your law degree, you will need to think about your choice of schools as well as taking the LSAT exams (law school admissions test). This multiple choice test will act as a gauge of your general knowledge and ultimately will be the deciding factor on which schools you are accepted to.

Upon entering law school, you will decide whether you would like to study civil or criminal law. Both provide many opportunities for exciting careers. Civil law deals with corporate dealing, copyrights, drafting contracts, and suits between citizens that are non-violent. Criminal law obviously deals with those that have been accused of a crime, or those that they have victimized.

If you choose to be a civil lawyer, a great career avenue would be a real estate lawyer. Real estate lawyers are needed when homes are being bought and sold to oversee contracts, home inspections, and closing procedures. Hiring a real estate lawyer will ensure that you are not buying a home with hidden dangers, or that unnecessary fees are not included in your contract without your consent. They will go over all paperwork with you and explain any uncertain terms and conditions.

If you choose to be a criminal defense lawyer, you will need to decide to become a prosecutor, or defender. Defense attorneys build cases for their clients that prove their innocence beyond a reasonable doubt. The confidentiality between an attorney and their clients allow for admission of guilt, so be prepared to handle a client that really is guilty of a crime. Most people take a moral high road and do not defend those that are guilty for financial gain.

Although completing law school can lead to a prosperous career, there is a big price tag for law school. Your three years there can cost over $100,000 and up, depending on the school. This may seem overwhelming, but student loans can help you cover the cost. Although these will need to be paid back, the typically high salaries of attorneys offset most of the financial burden.
