How to Make Candle Molds at Home

If you want to learn how to make candle molds then you have come to the right place. I have had my fair share of arts and crafts fairs and I have been making candles for years. At every show that I do I always run in to people who are interested in the candle making process. Although I always get some of the more basic questions such as how did you make a candle and how do you make candle wax, one of the questions that I get at least once per show is always on the topic of candle molds.

Because I get so many questions I thought it only made sense to write an article teaching people how to make their own candle molds. I want to start off by saying you can use a large variety of different things for candle making purposes. Almost any container will do the job as long as it is not going to break on account of the hot wax. Some people tried to use milk cartons as a mold, now although this may seem like a good idea, it is not for a few reasons. For example, when the wax dries it will get stuck to the carton and it will be very hard for you to peel off the candle. Also, a milk carton may not be strong enough to hold the hot wax and may break.

One of the best molds that you can make when learning how make candle molds at home is going to be from a soda can. When you decide to use a soda can or an energy drink can as a mold you will be making a very wise choice. The best way turn one of these cans in to a mold for the use of candle making is to simply cut the top of the can off. You can do this very easily with a carving knife. Make sure that when you do this that you are being safe, not only can you cut your self with the knife you can also cut your self on the soda can. Soda cans are great as they will hold up to the hot wax, and when the candle is done drying all that you need to do is turn the can up side down and shake it and the candle will come right out. Make sure that you put vegetable oil or olive oil in the inside of the can before you pour hot wax in to it. This is going to make sure that the candle does not stick to the can.

You can also use Tupperware as a candle mold. Make sure however that when you do this that you do not use the disposable Tupperware. Once again, make sure that you put vegetable oil or olive oil on the inside of the Tupperware in order to make sure that the wax does not stick.

When learning how to make candle molds at home just be creative but remember that you are dealing with hot wax. So make sure that when you decide to use something as a candle mold that it is going to hold up to the wax. Glass jars and baby food containers are also great to use as a candle mold, they are sturdy and will not break due to pressure.
