Candle Making Ideas That Are So Easy You Can Even Do Them With Kids (But Be Safe)
When it comes to candle making ideas some people are really pretty impressive with what they come up with. For instance have you ever heard of ice candles or sand candles? Both of them are so creative it really amazes me that anyone could just think that up. Because I am such a big fan of making unique and interesting candles I have decided to write about the ice candles as they are simple and really cool to look at and cool to make.
As far as candle making ideas go this is a great one for a wide variety of reasons. It is really cool to look at, I even had a friend who thought that it looked like sea coral a bit, so he made an ice candle with some green and blue colors and a ton of sea shells mixed in to the wax. It looked really cool and when it melted it looked great. Because I liked it so much when he did it I decided to do it as well and am now going to teach you how to do it. We are not going to be adding any sea shells or anything to this candle, just a normal ice candle, which is cool enough in it self. Are you ready?
So here is a list of what you are going to need for this project, like I said earlier, This is one of my favorite candle making ideas an I am sure that when you try it, it is going to be one of yours too.
Tapered candle ( now this is optional, if you want to make your own tapered candle then feel free to do so, I simply put it here for people that want to save a bit of time and buy one instead)
Fragrance ( also optional but think about it, if you are making a candle then take the extra time to add some scent that you are going to enjoy, it is your candle and it is worth it)
Color ( once again, this is also an option, however, make sure that whatever color you decide to use that it is a close match the color of the tapered candle)
Wax
Double boiler
Ice cubes
Wax covered milk carton ( you can make this yourself if you can not find one, very easy, just use some wax paper and staples if you need to, and spray it with some vegetable oil so that the wax does not stick to the paper when it dries.
Alright, if you got what you need then it is time to change these candle making ideas of ours in to more than just an idea! Ready? Here we go!
Step # 1. The first thing that you are going to want to is prepare the mold, the mold is going to be the wax covered milk carton. You are going to cut it in half, pretty much the idea is to have it about the same length as the tapered candle as you are going to want the wick to be sticking out. After you cut it to the correct size then you are going to want to clean it and dry it well.
Step # 2. Now put the tapered candle in to the center of the mold, as you do this you are going to want to make sure that it is centered and sturdy. There are a few ways to do this, I will tell you what I do. I put a small nail in to bottom of the carton and in to the candle. This well help to hold it in place and you can easily remove it when the process is done. The reason that you are using it in the first place is because you are not going to want holes in the wax that are too close to the wick.
Step # 3. Now begin to cut the wax in to chunks and put them in to the top pan of the double boiler. When you do this you are also going to want to fill the bottom pan about half way up with water and bring it to a boil.
Step # 4. The wax is going to melt at around 150 degrees so make sure that you use your thermometer often as you do not want it to burn. Remember you are dealing with a highly flammable substance so just take your time and be safe. Stir the wax often.
Step # 5. Here is the fun part and when it comes to candle making ideas this is the part that you can have fun and make it personal to you. When the wax is melted, add the color and the fragrance. Take your time and make sure that you only add a little bit at a time. You have the power to make it as strong as you want both in color and fragrance, just be sure that you do not make it too overpowering.
Step # 6. Alright, here is the tricky part. Take your time and use caution, you do not want to burn yourself. Fill the carton up with ice cubes. Once you finish this then take the melted wax and pour it in to the carton on top of the ice cubes. The wax is hot so be careful.
Step # 7. Now you are going to let it cool for about 6 to 7 hours. When this is done then remove the the carton by ripping it off gently. Once you have done this set it aside to dry for about three days. Then you are going to have your very own ice candle that you made yourself!
It really is that easy! Thank you for reading and I hope that this helps you out! The ice candles are some of my favorite ideas when it come to candle making ideas and I am sure that when you are done you are going to agree.
