How to Make Candle Wax

Candle making is one of my favorite things and whenever possible I always try to include as many other people in on the process as possible. Because I have been interested in candle making for so long I have discovered quite a number of different tips and tricks that can be used to make this hobby not only a more fun experience but also more affordable. Now if you love gel candles and are interested in making them from scratch then you have come to the right place as I am going to teach you how to make candle wax from gel.

If you had made the attempt to make a candle out of gel before then there is a large possibility that you bought the gel yourself at an art and craft store. Although that is just how I used to do it, and it completely normal, I am sure that you have found out that the gel can turn out to be pretty expensive. There is a solution to this problem however as I am going to teach you how to make candle wax for gel candles at home. Now you do not have to be a chemist to do this although some of the ingredients are probably going to sound overwhelming. This is going to get you candle making with gel candles in no time at all so read on and enjoy!

Now the type of gel candle that you are going to make is going to be a stand alone gel candle. This is not going to need a container of any kind, simply a stand. The stand alone gel candles are my favorite to make as they hold the most fragrance and are, naturally, going to be able to stand on their own. Out of all the ingredients that you are going to need for candle making, you can almost always find all of them at an art and craft store, this goes for all the ingredients I am about to talk about as well. So let us begin.

Step 1. Take 1 lb of mineral oil and mix it with 1.4 oz of resin powder. Now make sure that you take your time and mix everything well as this is going to give your gel a stronger density.

Step 2. When learning how to make candle wax out of gel you are going to play the waiting game a lot, it starts here with the second step, after everything is mixed well then let it sit for one hour.

Step 3. When that hour has passed then mix it again to remove all the lumps that are naturally going to form. These lumps will cause the candle to burn unevenly, so this is important.

Step 4. Now put it in to a boiling pot or sauce pan and put the pan or pot on your stove top. Slowly heat the mixture and use a thermometer to determine the correct temperature of the mixture. It will begin the melting process at 220 degrees and make sure that it does not get any hotter then this as the mixture can set on fire. Do not get worried though, as long as you are safe and keep an eye on things, you will be fine.

Step 5. Now many things are going to happen to the mixture as it heats up, first after about 10 to 15 minutes in it is going to turn clear. Then about 30 minutes in the mixture is going to become more gel like. The heating process is going to take a while, around 2 hours most likely, as I said earlier, when learning how to make candle wax from gel you are going to be playing the waiting game often.

Step 6. After 2 hours of heating the gel should be liquid and ready to cool off for a while. Be careful when you do this next step as the gel is going to be hot, take your time and put the liquid gel in to a hard container that is not going to break on account of the heat. Now wait a while until the liquid hardens and then seal it up and put it away for future use. Then you can go on to candle making later. It is really simple huh? Thank you for reading and I hope that this has helped you learn how to make candle wax at home. Good luck and do not forget to have fun!
